2009 Cracklin Festival

Port Barre Louisiana
Begun
in 1985, the Port Barre Cracklin Festival is the major fundraiser for
the Port Barre Lions Club. Attended by thousands of festival goes
each year, it is a very important cultural event for the city of Port
Barre and St. Landry Parish.
The festival contains all of the usual features found in many Southern Louisiana community festivals. There is a Queen's Pageant with fifteen different age divisions, a parade down Main Street, carnival rides for all ages, live musical entertainment from local and regional artists, great food and drinks, and of course, the Cracklin Cook-Off.
The Cracklin Cook-Off is one of the highlights
of each Cracklin Festival. The Cook-Off is not only a test of
cracklin cooking ability, but showmanship as well. Divided into a
Professional category for established restaurants and chefs, and an
amateur category for people who just love to cook cracklins!
Prizes are awarded for both quality of cracklins, and booth
presentation.

Family Night - Buy a bracelet and ride the fair rides for one price all night - 5 to 10 p.m.

About the Port
Barre Lions Club
The International Association of Lions Club is the
world’s largest and most active service club organization,
which was organized in 1917. We wear our colors of purple
and gold proudly standing for loyalty, integrity, generosity
in mind, and heart.
The Port Barre Lions Club was started in 1985,
and with this start came the “CRACKLIN FESTIVAL.”
Our festival helps us to raise money for very special causes
and people. One of our largest charity donations is to the
Louisiana Eye Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The foundation helps people who are in need of eyeglasses
or eye surgery, but are financially unable to receive this
care. Our club then looks into sponsoring the person in
need. Another sponsorship that we hold is for crippled
children to have a chance to go to a summer camp where
all of their special needs can be taken care of while having
fun. The camp is located in Leesville, Louisiana. It is
called the Lions Camp for Crippled Children.
These are only two of the many special reasons Lions
raise money. We do try hard to help those that can’t
always help themselves.
